Celebrations

Last week McCormack House celebrated the life of their College patron, Irene McCormack.  Irene, a West Australian Josephite Sister, was executed by Shining Path guerillas - her alleged crimes were feeding the poor and educating local children.   When Irene went to Peru to work with the poor, she spoke of ‘choosing life’ and at Holy Cross College we mark and celebrate the life of this courageous woman who inspires us with her unwavering commitment to justice and service.

We have had quite a bit to celebrate in the last week.  Our new website has ‘gone live’ - the product of significant time spent planning and designing.  The news blogs on the website will replace the College Newsletter. LIFE@HCC will be updated on a continual basis with reports and photos of events and the Calendar and Upcoming Events blog will assist you in planning for future events. I will post an entry on the Principal’s blog each week and you will be sent a reminder sms/email to check the news blogs each week.  I hope this will give you convenient access to up to date information.

Congratulations to JoAnna Maynard (Year 9) and Cian Guest (Year 7) who were placed third in their respective age groups in the WA All Schools Cross-country and have been selected in the State Cross-country Team.  In the ACC Cross-country Cian won his age group and Jo placed third - a fantastic effort.  Well done to the whole cross-country squad who competed on Thursday in very cold and wet conditions.  Thanks to Mr Elliott, Ms McNae and Mrs DaVini for their work in training and preparation for the cross-country events.

On Wednesday evening we welcomed prospective staff for the Early Learning Centre to the College for an Information Evening.  We are currently advertising for a Head of Junior School.  The prospect of welcoming the little ones to the College and of sharing their journey through their years of schooling is very exciting.  We now have the building license and builders will be on site next week to commence the building of both the Early Learning Centre and the new Secondary School building.  We will keep you updated on the progress.

Thanks to Mrs Sharon' D'Evelynes, Ms Flavia Lenzo  and all the parents who assisted with the Friends of Holy Cross sausage sizzle at Masters last weekend.  It was a great community effort and a good fundraiser.

Senior School students probably don't have much time to celebrate this week as they have mid-year exams.  The extended long weekend (students have no classes or exams  on Friday or Tuesday) will give students a good opportunity to study for next week's exams.

I look forward to speaking with parents of current Year 10 students on Thursday 6 June at the Year 11 2014 Information Evening.
