WEEK 3

COLLEGE BALL
Our foundation students are growing up and this was very evident at our first College Ball on Friday night.  The students looked wonderful in their ball gowns and suits and really got into the spirit of the occasion.  Caversham House was a delightful venue, beautifully decorated for the occasion.  College Captains, Teaghan Barone and Giordarna Rigoli, were the hosts for the evening and were assisted by the Inter-relationships and Enrichment Captains, Abby Clayton and Georgia Heggs.  Thanks to Mrs Anita Walmsley and Ms Kelly Bond for their commitment in working to make our first Ball very special.  Thanks also to the many staff who attended.

PARENT INFORMATION EVENING
Thanks to the parents who attended the Junior and Middle School Parent Information Evening on Wednesday.  Parental interest and support are key ingredients in supporting students in their learning.  Thanks to Mrs Flavia Lenzo and Mrs Sharon D'evelynes for coordinating the BBQ on behalf of Friends of Holy Cross and to Student Leaders who assisted.

SALVADO FEAST DAY
Tomorrow we will celebrate Salvado’s Feast Day.  Bishop Rosendo Salvado was born in Tui in Spain on 1 March 1814, so this year we celebrate his 200th anniversary.   Salvado House will celebrate with Mass on Wednesday morning and with a House lunch.

EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
We are hoping to take possession of the Early Learning Centre early next week.  This is a very exciting time for us as we prepare for the little ones to move into this wonderful learning space.  I will keep you informed regarding the process of the move as soon we have the final details.

YEAR 7 SWIMMING CARNIVAL
It was great to see the House Spirit at the Year 7 Carnival last Friday.  Thanks to the many parents who came along to support.  Full details and results can be found on the LIFE@HCC blog - http://web.holycross.wa.edu.au/news/lifeblog.php

WELCOME TO 2014

The past week has been very  exciting with our dream of a K - 12 College becoming a reality with the arrival of the Early Learning Centre students last  Monday.
It has been wonderful to see the younger students and the older students together and this was particularly evident on Wednesday during our College Breakfast and House Team Games.    We have welcomed many new students to the College including the students in K - 2 and four classes of Year 7.  The Year 7 students had an Orientation programme during their first week which included an introduction  Retreat and a Team Building Day at Ern Halliday Recreational Centre.  Students in Years 1 and 2 have been busy with swimming lessons.

Yesterday we celebrated our College Opening Mass.  In the opening song the little ones led us in the singing of ‘This Little Light of Mine’ reflecting on the Gospel message:
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;  it is set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father
(Mt 5:14 - 16)
This Gospel was particularly apt as this year we will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Bishop Rosendo Salvado, the patron of Salvado House and of the Enrichment Pillar.  The Mission Statement of this pillar is Receive the Gifts of God With Gratitude, cultivate them responsibly and share them lovingly with others.  This will be a focus for this year.

Our Student Leaders, led by College Captains Giordarna Rigoli and Teaghan Barone, have been sharing their gifts.  They assisted with the transition of new students on Day One and last week participated in a Leadership Training Session.  They have also been assisting with break times for the Junior School students.

BUILDING PROGRAMME
The Building Programme is progressing well and we will move into the new Early Learning Centre in early March.  The secondary building is also starting to take shape and we should take possession of this building late in Term 2.

I look forward to seeing you at the Welcome BBQ and Information Evenings next Wednesday.
