A GROWING COMMUNITY
On Wednesday we gathered in our newly shaded Amphitheatre for our Opening College Assembly. We ar fortunate to have received a grant sponsored by the Cancer Council and EFTPOS to install shade sails over this area. We started the Assembly with Irene McCormack's Morning Offering. When Sister Irene went to Peru to work with the poor and marginalised, she spoke of 'choosing life'. This year we will have a special focus on Sister Irene McCormack and the values of Justice and Service, which she represents for our College community.
At our assembly we presented the 2014 Edith Cowan Award to last year's College Dux, Sofia Sofocado, and 2015 College Captain, Taya Horley. Sofia has enrolled to study Science at the University of Western Australia. It is pleasing to see that all our students who applied to attend university have been offered places, with most receiving their first preference of course and university.
We are growing rapidly as a College and this year have over 600 students from Pre-kindergarten to Year 12. This was very evident as we gathered in Houses for our College Breakfast and the House Games which followed the Assembly. Welcome to the new families and new staff who have joined us in 2015.

A NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Today we welcomed students in Junior School and Year 7 to the College for the new school year. Junior School students were excited to have 'stepped up' to the next year level and to spend time with their new teachers. The students in the Pre-Kindergarten programme adjusted very quickly to their new environment and were soon happily engrossed in creative activities. The Junior School has expanded this year and tomorrow we will welcome two classes of Kindergarten children. Year 7 students will take part in a transition programme during the next week, which will hopefully equip them with skills to make a smooth adjustment to the secondary school years.
Thanks to Student Leaders who did a great job in assisting today. We look forward to welcoming the remainder of the students commence school tomorrow.
