CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Daniel Docker, Year 11, who today was presented with the Simpson Prize at Parliament House in Canberra. Daniel is the WA winner of this national history competition.  Daniel was flown to Canberra to spend two days visiting  a number of national memorials, dining at the Royal Military College, Duntroon and attending the awards ceremony.  In addition Daniel will join the winners from the other states on a tour which will include London, Paris and the battle fields of the Western Front in Belgium and France.  On ANZAC Day he will attend the Dawn Service at Villers-Bretonneux.  It is an outstanding accomplishment for Daniel to receive this award and his prize promises to be the trip of a lifetime.  This year there were over 1100 entries in the  competition.   This is the second time in four years that a Holy Cross student has been the WA winner of the Simpson Prize.  In 2015 Bianca Sumich travelled to Gallipoli for the centenary of ANZAC.  In 2017 Miss Emilie Reynolds was one of two teacher prize winner and travelled as a chaperone with the Simpson Prize group to Europe.  Thanks to Miss Reynolds, for her great work with the History students and in  supporting the students in entering the Simpson Prize.

ENRICHMENT

ENRICHMENT

Enrichment activities are an important part of LIFE at HCC.  This week a group of students competed in the Mock Trials Competition.  Sponsored by the Law Society, these are simulated court cases in which teams contest a fictitious legal matter presented in the Western Australia court system. Thanks to Mr Jamie Gotti, Humanities Teacher, for preparing the students for this event.

The Swim Squad competed in the Associated and Catholic Colleges Swimming Carnival today.  There was a great spirit of participation among the team.  Well done to all swimmers on their efforts.  Congratulations to the Senior Girls who placed second in their category.  Thanks to Mr James Parsons and the staff who coached the swimmers for their efforts in helping the students prepare for this event.  Thanks to Mrs Kristina Croxford and the Hospitality students for catering for the breakfast for swimmers on Monday.

Students have the opportunity to participate in many other Enrichment activities at the College.  Rehearsals are well under way for the College Production and Film and Art Clubs have also commenced.  Middle and Senior School students are also involved in a number of sports events as part of the NEAS Inter-School Sports Competition.  Homework Club is also offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week.
